We cover every single aspect of the auction industry from the simple “learn the auction cry” to how to set up a business, attract customers, what to charge, how to staff, what to charge and pay, advertise, how to use your bank account and settle sales. We’ll even go over the laws pertaining to the state you’re from.
WE KNOW OUR STUFF
Your instructor’s father owned a livestock auction barn in Kansas, where he grew up. From those early days, David was exposed to the inner operations of the auction industry. They sold not only livestock but also agricultural goods, produce, estate merchandise, small animals and hay/straw. He worked at the sale barn in the background, where he learned the hard labor of unloading and moving livestock and watched closely as bidders participated in buying all merchandise.
In 2006, David opened Walnut Creek Auction and specialized in executive estates, business liquidations and fundraising. With more than 630 of these sales in his background, David retired officially in November 2024 and today, conducts only specialty sales on an exclusive basis.
In 2023, he opened Walnut Creek Auction College and held classes in Des Moines, IA and Moline, IL where 32 students graduated in just the first year.
WE OFFER COMPREHENSIVE OR SPECIALITY BREAKOUT SESSIONS FOR YOUR STAFF
Walnut Creek is the only auction school that breaks out its overall session for specific tasks performed by your staff. We offer in-depth insight to writing contracts, advertising, location management, merchandise movement and management, auction set up, staffing and pay, clerking, cashiering, bookkeeping and paying expenses.
WE LIMIT OUR CLASS SIZE
We only allow 10 students per class so you can expect detailed, personal attention to the issues you want to pursue individually. In fact, often after class closes, the students choose to sit around and share concerns, practice bid calling, learning bid increments and asking lots of questions. David goes home daily only after every question of the day is answered.
WE COMPLETE YOUR EDUCATION QUICKLY
While most schools belabor the auction chant for a week or two, we can assure you with the special tips we provide about this magical bid calling, you’ll be able to practice a very capable cry within a couple days. You won’t believe how easy it is to learn the auction cry.
We’ll work with you to your level of comfort, but generally, the students are crying professionally within two days.

WE ARE LIFELONG COACHES
At other schools, when your money is paid and your class is over, your education is complete. Not here. David will be available to you for the rest of your career. He uses the phone, Facebook, texts, emails and even Zoom and FaceTime to communicate with you. This includes group meetings with your staff if you need that to happen.
